The weather report that morning said there was a possibility of thunder storms but the beautiful blue sky made it hard to believe. When I left work that afternoon however, there were strong winds and some very nice clouds. Yes, it's another "what I did on the way home from work" chase! ;)
Driving home, there were heavy clouds with rain sheeting down to the west. The sun was setting behind them, and it looked like strands of gold. I debated using the plastic camera I keep with me... or going home and getting the Sony... or just being tired and forgetting about the whole thing. When I turned off the freeway... there was a guy pulled over to the side of the road... taking pictures! :) I looked at where he was aiming... and there was a huge storm structure right over downtown, including what almost looked like a shelf cloud.
I hurried home, grabbed the digital camera, scared the cat, and drove back out as fast as I could. I parked at a location I knew to be relatively "safe", but couldn't get the shot I wanted. The rain caught up to me then. I took a few pics of the clouds, hanging down low to the ground. Then I started back for home.
But driving past that wonderful sky that hung over downtown... I knew I had to get a picture of it. I drove towards a new housing development and found a small bridge that was elevated enough to give me the perspective I wanted. Ignored the "road closed" signs, pulled over, got the pics I wanted, and got out. ;)
