My first chase. =) And really just a practice run. I think it lasted a half hour. But it was great!
The forecast was rain with possible thunderstorms. I drove down to get a mocha and decided that I was going to do my practice chase, right then. I picked up a Kodak throw-away camera and drove north along the levee road.
I found a point where I had an unobstructed 360 degree view and pulled over. I got out of my car. It was so quiet. Just the wind. To the west were gray black clouds, to the east, blue sky and brilliant white puffballs. I took pictures of the four directions, and a bonus one of a great blue heron that was landing in a pond.
The rain was getting heavier. I got back in my car and drove further north. Stopping again for some jet black clouds that were blowing North across that blue sky.
After that it started pouring and I headed home. Happy. :)
I learned a few things too.
- I need to get maps of the area.
- You still have to look at the road while watching the sky.
- You get wet.
- Finding a safe place to pull over is an art.
